Pumpkin Succulent Favors for a Fall Themed Shower

Pumpkin Succulent Shower Favors

My mother-in-Law and I recently hosted a fall themed baby shower for my sister-in-law, Dana, and we made these adorable pumpkin succulent party favors for all our guests!

Since Dana's little one is due at the end of October and our party would be on the first day of fall, we decided to throw a fall themed baby shower, inspired by this adorable invitation from Paperless Post with a pumpkin on it.

Dana loves succulents, and we found these cute little potted ones and knew they would be the perfect little favors. But the black plastic pots weren't very cute, so we needed a new vessel. Enter these little styrofoam pumpkins from Joann's. Check out the steps below to create these adorable pumpkin succulent planters for your guests (or yo-self!).

Pumpkin Succulent Planter

  • Hot Knife (optional)
  • 5" foam craft pumpkins
  • Pea gravel or other small rocks
  • 3" potted succulents
  • Succulent/Cactus Soil
  • Spray bottle of water

1. Using a hot knife (or utility knife), cut a circle about 3" in diameter around the top of the foam pumpkin. Use a utility knife and spoon to scoop out the styrofoam from the pumpkin, creating a hole about 2" deep.

2. Line the bottom of the pumpkin's hole with a half inch of pea gravel to allow for drainage.

3. Remove the succulent carefully from its original pot, and plant it into your pumpkin, filling in any holes with more succulent/cactus soil. Add more rocks around the top of the soil.

4. Lightly mist the plant and its soil with a spray bottle of water.

It took my MIL and I about an hour to make 18 of these little guys, and our guests loved them! They doubled as table decor, which was a double win. Now that I know how easy they are to make, I think I'll make a larger one for my Thanksgiving Day tablescape. I can't wait to have a new niece or nephew for this year's Thanksgiving!
